Everyone is opening businesses, but in Durand there has been a significant increase in women-owned businesses. This is great for the economy and growing our city. There seems to be a good flow of people going in and out of these businesses. There is even a crystal shop. The owner agreed to speak to us and give us encouraging words. Don't let anyone tell you that you're not going to make it or that your original idea is dumb. You'll never really know unless you try, and it doesn't hurt to try.
Her crystal business has brought in people from Owosso and even Flint. Durand is the only crystal job in a 20 mile radius making it a hot spot.
We've also had a new candle business open up. Paige Fryer is the owner. She has had the best opening week compared to every other business in Durand. She has been working for months to open up this business and it's clearly paying off. She's doing a great job and we reccomend the strawberry shortcake candle. Paige has very original scents and they're all homemade. She's accepting advertisors to come in as well as sponsors. Another good business to support in downtown Durand.
We are also recognizing Polly Hoover for having the most successful business this month. She owns her own bowling alley! Business has been booming there. Especially because it's winter so everyone is bowling right now. You can join next month's bowling league by signing up at the bowling alley. We are so proud of our business owning women and wanted to give them a special shoutout for all of their hardwork.
Back To TopThis guy is so good. You need to check out his work. He is from Durand, Michigan and he is performing in town next week so please, show support, and come to town center. He's been endorsed by Billy Strings. Trevor has found peace in his work and his pieces are an inspiration to all who hear him play. Go Trevor! You are going to become more than the town you came from and we are all supporting you. He started out just playing guitar, then he joined the Durand Band. He can now play pretty much any instrument that you put in front of him.
After people came to the city council meeting, the decision was made and they've decided to increase the funding for the library. More support was there than protest. The books will stay on their shelves and everyone can go and check out whatever they want. The library wants Froggy News to inform you guys that you can leave book reccomendations as well as donate old books you no longer want. They want to grow the library and invite kids to come to community readings. They will be having volunteers read to the kids so if you're looking to get more involved with the community, come read to the children. They'll be hosting tons of events and the Durand National Art Honor Society has been invited to host art events. They've been planning art shows, so again, come support your community.
Protesters are very angry that their motion to defund didn't pass. Their efforts were completely halted by the rest of the community's love for the library. In fact the love was so strong it did the very opposite of what protesters wanted.
